Ayrshire Golf Courses

There Are Almost 50 Ayrshire Golf Courses

With almost 50 courses to choose from, there are classic links and majestic inland layouts all of a very high standard. You can spend an entire week playing golf in Ayrshire and only scratch the surface.

The Open Championship was born in Ayrshire at Prestwick Golf Club in 1860. Although Prestwick is no longer on The Open rota, it is steeped in history having Hosted the Open an incredible 24 times.

The Ailsa Course at Trump Turnberry was the setting for the epic Duel in the Sun between Nicklaus and Watson was back in 1977.

Royal Troon is another Open Championship venue, having recently been the host course in 2016. The events on the final day outdid the Duel in The Sun with a great final day tussle.

Several Ayrshire golf courses regularly hold Open Championship Qualifying such as Dundonald, Western Gailes and Glasgow Gailes
